Land Rover's LR4 replaces the ace LR3 SUV for the 2010 model year. The new model carries on the all-purpose shape and size of the LR3 with some new styling cues that better tune it with the rest of the Land Rover lineup. A new V8 engine that gains power and an updated interior are the key features of the LR4 that takes on the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz M-Class and Lexus GX 470. It was showcased at the 2009 New York Auto Show and truly reflects Land Rover's dynamic design with smart and spacious interiors and an abundance of advanced technologies.
Power and Performance
The four-wheel-drive LR4 features a new larger and powerful 5.0-liter V8 engine that makes 375 horsepower and 375 pounds-feet of torque, and benefits from direct-injection technology. It is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Land Rover's Terrain Response system gets two new features in the LR4 to help navigate sandy or steep terrain.
Body and Styling
The front end features a new bar-style grille and new headlights while the rear still features the LR3's unique asymmetrical liftgate/tailgate, but the taillights now have a clear lens design. Nineteen-inch alloy wheels are standard and 20-inch rims are optional.
An all-new interior for the LR4 takes the already practical and functional cabin upscale a few notches, with tasteful applications of wood, leather and colors.
A revised center control panel features a new button layout. A new steering wheel, new front seats with longer bottom cushions and LED ambient lighting make up the interior that offers five- and seven-seat configurations. A new 5-inch Thin Film Transistor (TFT) driver information LCD screen is also introduced with the LR4. Optional twin-stitched leather is available for the new front seats, which now offer power-adjustable headrests and bolsters. The response from the new hard-drive-based navigation system is quicker and comes coupled with HD radio and full iPod control.
Safety Features
Standard safety features include antilock brakes, side-impact airbags for the front seats, side curtain airbags and an electronic stability system.
